2011 In A Nutshell

This past year, more than ever, I learned that life is all about choices, and owning the consequences of those choices, whether good or bad. It is always easier to blame someone else, but to choose true humility, and face our consequences with ownership is the ultimate race in life.

Can you imagine a world where each person took full responsibility for their life? That would mean spending the majority of our time bettering our mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual states. In return, we could feel so free that the essence and energy surrounding us could uplift whoever or whatever was near. We wouldn’t need man’s laws to tell us how to act, because we would simply remember the laws built within us. So instead of spending and wasting so much time trying to solve other people’s problems, we all could focus on solving our own problems, and be enlightened by each other.

Maybe I’m asking too much of this world. For now I will continue to dream, work, live, and pray for a world in which peace really does and can exist. With so many cultural, political, religious, and personal conflicts in life, may God grant us all true inner peace so that we may live a prosperous and enjoyable new year.

“Princes And Kings” - Track 3 from Friction In Some Direction (release date 06.27.11)

During the most recent Presidential election race, it really hit me. Americans simply want someone to tell them what to do. As a nation, we’ve stopped thinking for ourselves, and feel the next best President will have all the answers for us. In reality, God has already given us all the knowledge and guidance we need to live a civilized life. Call Him what you prefer, the basic principles of life are all the same. All of these new “laws” put into action to “protect” us are only taking away the very freedom our brave soldiers are fighting for, and it’s our own fault because we let it happen. Until we can start trusting our own faith and strip back to the essentials of life, we can’t ever have peace. I’m not even talking world peace, just peace within us individually. -AZ

I believe when love goes round

Time stands still for a moment now and the clouds begin to clear

And when pride falls down to the ground

An unseen miracle appears and the sun shines without fear

And after power before humility

Beggars start their lonely crawl and that’s when nighttime starts to fall

And I can’t tell why everyone’s not all right

And I can’t tell why everything’s gone awry

But peace can only survive when there’s one God

When princes and kings are ruling no more

We look everywhere but in the mirror

When searching for an answer to our endless prayers

And when our walls begin to tumble down

Our eyes try to see what only our hearts can feel

And every time we turn our backs on love

We become paralyzed by our sins and crazy lies

And I can’t tell why everyone’s not all right

And I can’t tell why everything’s gone awry

But peace can only survive when there’s one God

When princes and kings are ruling no more

Ooh x2

I can’t tell why everyone’s not all right (Ooh)

And I can’t tell why everything’s gone awry (Ooh)

But peace can only survive when there’s one God (Ooh)

When princes and kings are ruling no more (Ooh)

Carry Me

“Carry Me” – Track 2 of Friction In Some Direction (release date 06/27/2011)

Some days the world really does seem so cruel. It feels full of ignorant people who care only about their own power. It becomes harder to know if what you are doing is actually the right thing to do, because evil is often easier. Some days it sounds nice if an angel just carried me away from all the pain here on Earth. Then I remind myself to see the real beauty of this world, appreciating life in all forms, praying for peace in my heart, to help carry me away from the sins of the world. -AZ

LYRICS:

Oh, oh

Oh, oh

Two by two they march

And hold their flags up in the sky

Fighting for their life

With thoughts of only the Most High

We send our letters of love

And prayers through the night

Never knowing the truth

Cuz we can’t bear the sight

The skies fill with fog

Causing ice to break apart

Worlds flip upside down

Tearing your heart

Looking for someone to blame

But not from within

It may be too late

To change where we’ve been

Won’t you spread your wings and carry me

To the moon and under the sea

What are we living for?

Fighting peace with war?

Won’t you spread your wings and carry me

A child waits all night long

For a better day

Thankful for the ones

Who care enough to stay

Food was scarce and hope was lost

Until you came around

Lifting his spirits

Up off the ground

Won’t you spread your wings and carry me

To the moon and under the sea

What are we living for?

Fighting peace with war?

Won’t you spread your wings and carry me

Won’t you hold me?

I can feel you

Arms wrapped tightly

It’s our secret

Won’t you spread your wings and carry me

To the moon and under the sea

What are we living for?

Fighting peace with war?

Won’t you spread your wings and carry me x2

Oh, oh

Oh, oh

Oh, oh

Oh, oh

Faith Remains

In a recent blog post of mine, I wrote about how Pastor Terry Jones forgot about “forgiveness” when threatening to burn the Koran and how non-Americans judging us on one person’s behavior can really suck. After much thought however, I realized I had the wrong focus. I remembered that one of the great things about America IS our freedom. Though it’s slowly being taken away by all these little “laws” popping up everywhere just to “protect” us, we are still “free”.

In America, it is completely legal to burn any book, flag, or religious symbol. Though frowned upon, it can happen, and does happen, and our government is not technically allowed to do anything about it. However, I recently heard of a Greek Orthodox Church in Paramus, NJ that had to remove it’s large cross on it’s large dome, and replace it with a very small cross on their large dome instead, because the large cross upset the local Jewish community. Not sure how that legally happened, but it unfortunately did.

A Middle Eastern Authority (I forget what country, sorry) spoke in a recent interview last week and he mentioned how a Christian burning physical copies of the Koran cannot harm the Koran, because the Koran is always in their hearts. He hoped his people would see that, and not disturb the peace over this one man’s actions. As an Orthodox Christian, I believe the same. If someone burns the Bible, or a Cross or Church is destroyed, it does not affect my faith. My relationship with God is in my heart, my soul; and not even killing me can take it away. Hopefully as Americans or Non-Americans, Christians or Jews, Muslims or Atheists, Hindus or Buddhists, we can all remember that faith remains internal.

Let us cherish our freedom. Let us love those who hate us. Let us remember that action speaks louder than word.
